No. 16 Men's Basketball Wins Tenth Straight

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - No. 16 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball won its tenth straight game as they knocked off Washington Colllege (Md.), 98-47, on Thursday night at Tarble Pavilion. The Garnet move to 13-1 and 7-0 in Centennial Conference action, while the Shoremen fall to 3-9 and 0-5.

Swarthmore opened the game on a 12-2 run behind six points from Michael Caprise and three each from Matt Mulvey and Conor Harkins. With 11:08 left in the opening half, Caprise knocked down a three to give Swarthmore a 23-9 advantage. The Garnet led at the half-time break, 49-20, which was finished off by a 12-4 run in the last 4:26 by the host.

In first ten minutes of the second half, the Swarthmore defense held the Shoremen to just eight points. Out of the 98 points scored by the Garnet, 64 were off of the bench. Alec WhiteJulian Levin and Chuck Sweat all extended the Garnet lead with a few points each mid-way through the second half. TJ Chapman and Jared Groff contributed to the offensive outburst off of the bench.

In each half, the home team scored exactly 49 points and held their opponent to less than 30 points. Each player that played nine or more minutes, had at least two points for the Garnet. 

Harkins, who finished the game with nine points, shot 75% from three-point range. As a team, Swarthmore shot 41% from the field and scored 22 second chance points. The Garnet out rebounded the Shoremen 52-24, including 17 offensive boards. Sweat led the way with five offensive boards, while Harkins, George Visconti and Levin added a pair each.

Sweat and Caprise led the Garnet with 12 points each. Mulvey and Major Eason tallied 11 points, while George Corzine and Chapman added seven points of their own.
