Cockrell's Buzzer Beater Lifts Giants Past Lions 82-80

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Graduate senior Tone Cockrell (Upper Marlboro, Md./Landon School) knocked down a fadeaway buzzer-beating jumper as time expired to lift the Keystone College men's basketball team past Bryn Athyn College 82-80 in CSAC action on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Giants improve to 4-9 (2-2 CSAC) while the Lions drop to 1-12 (0-4 CSAC).

Tied at 78-all, with 47 seconds left in regulation, Cockrell knocked down a pair of free throws to give Keystone an 80-78 lead. Bryn Athyn responded with a layup with 30 seconds left to tie it up at 80.

Cockrell attacked the paint with three seconds on the clock and heaved up a fadeaway jumper that hit nothing but net to give the Giants the key road victory.

Cockrell finished the contest with a double-double, scoring 23 points while grabbing a team-high 11 boards. Cockrell also notched three assists and three steals.

Freshman Jack Anderson (Davie, Fla./Western High) enjoyed a game-high 26 points behind 6 of 13 shooting from deep while freshman Pete Laidley (Miramar, Fla./Pembrokes Pine Charter) notched 14 points, nine boards, four assists, and two blocks.

Shane Rosencrans (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) tallied 10 points and five boards off the bench.

For the Lions, four players finished in double-figures as Derreck Orr, Jr. tallied 17 points. Jaryn McCann enjoyed a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 19 rebounds.

Keystone returns home for just their third home game this season, hosting St. Elizabeth (2-8, 2-0 CSAC) on Saturday, Jan. 15 3 p.m.

Bryn Athyn travels to Valley Forge (3-7, 0-4 CSAC) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
