SELINSGROVE, PA (January 4, 2022) -- The Susquehanna University men's basketball team used a 13-3 run midway through the second half to pull away from visiting Haverford College, upping its winning streak for four games with a 93-86 home victory in action from O.W. Houts Gymnasium Tuesday evening.

Senior Jay Martin once again was the spark for the River Hawks (9-3), as the senior went 9-of-13 from the floor on the way to 22 points. Martin was once again strong defensively, as he followed up his school-record steal total from Sunday's game at Lebanon Valley with three more steals in Tuesday night's win.

The victory was hard fought though for Susquehanna, which led for the first nine minutes of the game until Josh Love hit a three-pointer with 10:46 left in the opening half to tie the game at 20. Love game the Fords (6-5) their first lead at 22-21 on a jumper a minute later, which turned into an eight-point lead as Jackson Ryan connected on a three-pointer to make it 29-21 to finish a 12-1 run for the visiting squad.

The River Hawks would put together a spurt of their own, scoring the game's next 16 points which included seven from junior Dominic Dunn to make it a 37-29 lead in favor of the hosts. Susquehanna would trade baskets at the end of the stanza, taking a six-point edge into the break at 39-33. Dunn posted 12 points in the opening 20 minutes, while junior Howie Rankine came off the bench to add seven points in eight minutes of action.

After halftime, Susquehanna's lead hovered around eight points until Dunn connected on a triple to give the River Hawks their first double-digit edge at 46-35 with 17:47 to go. Haverford whittled their deficit down to three with just under 15 minutes remaining on two free throws, but with Susquehanna leading 54-50 it would rattle off a 13-3 run to take a 14-point lead. The advantage would swell to 16 points for SU, and despite a late rally by the Fords the River Hawks were able to nail the game down at the free throw line.

Once again SU benefited from turnovers caused, causing 15 turnovers which resulted in a 21-10 points off turnovers edge for SU. Dunn finished with 18 points to aid Martin in the scoring ledger, going 7-of-14 from the field while connecting on 4-of-8 from deep. Dunn added a game-high six rebounds. Rankine tallied 12 points off the bench, missing just one of his six field goals on the night, and Danny Frauenheim posted six points, seven assists and two steals. Senior Lukas Yurasits led all players with a +13 +/-, playing strong defense while adding nine points and five rebounds.

First-year Cooper Haberern finished with seven points and five rebounds as well for Susquehanna, which shot 56.5 percent (35-62) from the floor. SU also was 7-of-17 from downtown, while making 16 of its 23 (69.6 percent) free throws.

Haverford was paced by 20 points off the bench by Harry Johnson, as the first-year player was 7-of-9 on the night, adding a game-high seven caroms. Johnson was one of five players in double figures for the Fords, as Ryan tallied 15 points as well. Love and Nate Torres each posted 12 points apiece, and Ryan Trotter finished with 11 points as well. Haverford shot 54.4 percent from the field, and knocked down 19-of-27 (70.4 percent) from the line.
