No. 5 USJ Men's Basketball Remains Undefeated, Handles Elms Thursday, 86-60

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The No. 5 University of Saint Joseph (USJ) men's basketball team made it seven straight to start the 2021-22 season with an 86-60 victory over the Blazers of Elms College (ELMS), in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest inside the O'Connell Center Thursday night. With the win, Saint Joseph extends its record-breaking streak to start a season with seven wins in a row. Elms meanwhile dips to 0-8.

USJ held Elms under 30% shooting for the third time this season. The Blue Jays have also put up over 80 points in back-to-back games for the first time in 2021-22, as five players reached double figures and 11 scored in total on the night. Senior forward Jordan Powell (Middletown, Conn.) and sophomore forward Lucius Brittian (Mansfield, Conn.) led the way with 12 points each, both shooting 50% from the floor. Senior guard Chaylyn Martin (Hartford, Conn.) tied a career-high with 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 from the line. He also had five rebounds. Saint Joseph dominated the inside game, outrebounding Elms, 61-40, and outscoring the Blazers in the paint, 50-20. USJ remains in the top-five in D-III in scoring margin with the 26-point victory, and is the only unbeaten team left in the GNAC.
