Montclair St. Runs Away from Valley Forge, 115-73

Montclair, NJ – Guards Kalleem Lambert and Kyree Henry and forward Steven Breeman each scored 14 points leading six players in double figures as Montclair State put forth a historic offensive output in a 115-73 victory over Valley Forge at the Panzer Athletic Center on Wednesday evening.

Senior Irving Callender registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Red Hawks (2-1), after a slow start rolled to their second win of the season. The 115 points matched the fourth-highest single-game total in school history it was the highest point total for MSU at the Panzer Athletic Center in program history. The point total was five shy of the single-game record of 120 points set against Bloomfield on February 9, 1954.

Keyon Pryce and Greg Eck added 11 points each with Devin Cooper and Mike Jackson each finishing with nine points. Jackson and Grant Holbrook pulled down six boards apiece while Breeman, Francisco Paulino and Amir Williams had five each.

Derian Bradford had a game-high 26 points along with eight rebounds for Valley Forge (2-1). Matthew Altamirano added 17 along with eight boards.

Montclair State trailed 6-2 early and hit on just two of its first 12 attempts, however it soon began to find its shooting touch and went on a 31-12 run over a nine-minute span in the first half to take control. Lambert got the Red Hawk within 8-7 on a three-pointer with Williams scoring four straight points to give MSU the lead at 11-8 with 14:20 left. Lambert's second three pushed the lead to 17-10 and the advantage grew to 26-12 after Callender drained a three with 10:58 remaining.

Henry connected from behind the arc with Cooper's driving layup capping the spurt as MSU led 33-16 with 8:55 to play before halftime. Nine different players scored during the spurt for the Red Hawks as they shot 12-of-20 from field, including 5-of-10 from three in that span.

Lambert finished with nine in the first half with Eck adding eight off the bench helping Montclair Stat to a 55-31 halftime advantage. Pryce, Williams and Cooper had six apiece.  MSU shot 52 percent for the half (23-of-44).

The Red Hawks would put up 60 points in the first half and led 88-54 with 10 minutes left. Montclair State would hit the century mark with 6:39 left on a corner three from Henry for a 101-63 advantage. It was the first time Montclair has scored 100 points in a game since a 106-105 overtime win against William Paterson in Wayne, NJ nearly two years ago (November 26, 2019)

Twelve players got into the scoring column for MSU with 14 players grabbing at least one rebounds. Kieran Flanagan handed out six assists with Cooper getting five. Henry, Lambert and Paulino each had four helpers.

Montclair is back in action on Saturday, November 20 on the road for the first time this year. The Red Hawks will be in Hackettstown, NJ to take on Centenary University at Noon.
