ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick men's basketball team was blown out by visiting Vassar College on Tuesday night in Lambros Arena, as the Brewers used a 63-point second half to defeat the Hawks, 95-50. The win is the first of the season for Vassar, as they are now 1-2. The Hawks' tough start to the season continues, dropping to 0-4.

Steven White's (Hingham, MA/Hingham) ice-breaking three was all the Hawks would get in a low-scoring first 7:38, with Vassar scoring the next 13 points to grab a 13-3 lead. Anthony Girard (Chestertown, NY/North Warren Central) stopped the bleeding a bit with a lay-up, but the Brewers continued to lengthen their lead to as much as 15 after Rayan El Amine's three made it 21-6 with 6:25 to go in the half.

'Wick figured it out a little from there; a pair of successive Kevin Felasco (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) steals and assists to Liam Drennan (Oyster Bay, NY/Chaminade) and Nick Eiler (Highland Mills, NY/Saddle River Day) on the break cut the deficit to 21-10. After two more Vassar points, Drennan and White canned back-to-back threes, and Girard and Eiler followed with lay-ups to make it 23-20. That is the closest the Hawks would get, however, as the Brewers scored the final nine points of the period to take a 32-20 lead in the locker room.

It only got worse for Hartwick to start the second half. Zach Johnson finished off a traditional three-point play on the stanza's first possession, and just 3:15 in the Vassar lead was at 22, with the scoreboard reading 42-20. James Lucey (Freeville, NY/Groton Junior/Senior) and Kevin Felasco (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) responded with back-to-back threes, but Vassar held their hosts off with five straight points of their own.

Leading 47-29 with 13:46 on the clock, the Brewers went on a 26-11 run over the ensuing 6:56 to truly put the game away at 73-40. That included threes on back-to-back-to-back offensive possessions, the first two from Luke Adams and the last one by Kevin McAuliffe. There would be no let up over the rest of the contest, as they lengthened their lead out to 45 before the final buzzer sounded.

Girard had seven points and four rebounds for the Hawks, with White at six points and two assists. Nick Bantis (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) contributed eight points off the bench, and Eiler had six rebounds, four points, and two assists.

Vassar ended up at 54.7% from the field and 40.7% from the field, including an impressive 68.8% and 53.3% in each category in the second half. The Hawks were at just 28.8% overall and 27.3% from deep. The Brewers also more than doubled up Hartwick's rebounding effort, at 54-26, and the offensive portion of that led to a 20-5 lead in second chance points. They also dominated the paint, with 44 points in Hartwick's blue to just 16 for the Hawks.

'Wick returns to play in six days, when they travel to Saratoga Springs to take on Skidmore at 7 p.m.
