KEUKA PARK, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team broke the program record for points in a game in their triumphant return to the court this afternoon. The Statesmen put six players in double digits on the way to a 121-89 win at Keuka College this afternoon.

The previous Hobart scoring record, 114 points against Oswego State, stood for 43 years. The Statesmen also took down the program record for field goal percentage in a game, shooting 68.5 percent from the floor (50-73). The previous mark was .667 set against Hamilton in 2007. Hobart's 50 field goals made are just one shy of the record set against the Lakers back in 1978.

The frontcourt duo of Chandler Owenby and Jackson Meshanic led the Statesmen (1-0). Owenby was 10-of-14 shooting, recording a game-high 22 points. Meshanic made all seven of his shots from the field, finishing with 18 points. He also grabbed nine rebounds. Carter Meshanic added 14 points and seven boards in his Hobart debut. Guards Jack LesurePatrick Walker and Ryan Lucey each scored 10 points. Lesure posted a double-double, grabbing a game-high 10 boards.

Keuka (0-1) had five players reach double figures led by Nana Oteng's 15 points. Hobart, which led the nation in field goal percentage defense in 2019-20, limited the Wolves to 29-of-95 shooting (30.5%).

Midway through the first half, the game was tied at 24. Hobart seized the lead for good with a 13-2 run over the next two minutes. Aidan Rodgers and Lesure made back-to-back 3-pointers to open the run. Keuka's Daniel Obunse made a layup to pull it back to a four-point game, but Jackson Meshanic countered with a layup of his own, followed by another Lesure triple and a steal and fast-break dunk by Owenby, giving Hobart a 37-26 lead with eight minutes left in the first half.

The Statesmen scored the final five points of the half, taking a 64-45 lead into the break.

Hobart scored the first basket of the second half and maintained at least a 20-point lead for the remainder of the contest.

The Statesmen outrebounded the Wolves 62-34. That's tied for the second most rebounds in a game by Hobart, matching the 1990-91 team's effort against RIT and trailing only the 79 boards posted by the 1978-79 team against Houghton.

Rodgers handed out a game-high six assists, as the unselfish Statesmen were credited with 28 helpers on the day. That total is tied for fourth on Hobart's single game list.

The Statesmen will return to action on Nov. 12-13 when they compete in Oswego State's Max Ziel Tournament.
