Warlick’s Double-Double Highlights Sewanee's First Contest of 2021

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The men's basketball team at the University of the South dropped a regular season contest to the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern College, 82-65, Saturday evening, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee saw themselves down early, as BSC made its first four field goals to lead 9-0 with 17:14 left in the opening period before falling 23 points, 35-12, with 6:12 left in the frame.

-The Purple and White, after a 4-of-16 start from the field, were able to shake the dust off after that, dropping the deficit to 15 at intermission, 44-29.

-Despite the slow start, Sewanee finished the first 20 minutes with an 11-of-25 effort (44%) from the floor, and the momentum swung in the Tigers' direction at the start of the second half. They began chipping at the deficit, and the Tigers were able to get it down to a five-point affair, 68-63, with six minutes remaining in regulation.

-However, the Panthers pulled away, outscoring their opponent, 14-2, the rest of the way to seal the victory.

NOTES & NUGGETS
-Due to the University's COVID protocols, no fans were allowed inside Juhan Gymnasium.

-Despite being conference opponents, both games this weekend will count as regular season contests, and they will not count in the league standings.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Despite the cold start, Jordan Warlick posted a double-double, as he knocked down 17 points and corralled 13 boards. He also added four steals and three dimes.

-Colin Kahl recorded 12 points, while Joey Knox contributed 10 for the Purple and White.

-Mackie Garwood dished out four assists to go along with his nine points.

BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Cameron Glover posted a team-high 16 points and four rebounds in 18 bench minutes.

-Christian Stewart dropped 14 points and collected seven boards.

-The Panthers assisted on 20 of their 33 baskets and shot 55.9% (33-of-59) from the floor.
