FOND DU LAC - Marian University men's basketball finished with triple digits at the end of regulation for the first time since 2013 defeating Maranatha Baptist 100-60 to open the season.

The Sabres opened the game with a 15-12 but following a timeout scored 10 unanswered points to draw a Maranatha Baptist timeout.  The Sabercats were able to whittle their deficit down to as small as seven at 31-24 with 5:58 left in the first half before the Sabres closed out the half with a 22-9 run to go into the break ahead 53-33.

Marian went 21-40 (.525) from the field in the first 20 minutes led by sophomore Tyler Gouin who went 11-13 (.846) from the field for 26 points.

It was another Sabre timeout that sparked a big run to open the second half as Marian would use a 12-2 run to go ahead 72-40 with 13:18 left to play.  Junior Dylan Gmeiner capped off the spurt with a three-pointer.  Then, just like the first half, the Sabres also were able to put together a strong push to end the game.  With the Sabres up 87-57 and 5:19 in the game, Marian finished the game with a 13-3 spurt to put the final at 100-60.

The Sabre defense had a strong final half holding Maranatha Baptist to just 11-29 (.379) shooting.  On the offensive side, Marian finished the game shooting an even 50-percent from the field shooting 38-76 with 18 three-pointers.

Gouin led the way for all scorers with 39 points off 15-18 (.833) shooting.  Another newcomer opened their Sabre career strong as junior David Britton added 16 points, while Gmeiner chipped in 10 off the bench.  Junior Scott Paulus led the way for the Sabres down low with a game-high nine rebounds to go with five assists and a steal.
