#18 Brockport Set to Host Coast Guard in NCAA First Round

BROCKPORT, NY – The nationally-ranked No. 18 Brockport men's basketball won the SUNYAC Conference Championship and is set to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Div. III Men's Basketball Championships on Friday and Saturday.  No. 21 Middlebury  will take on Westfield State at 4 p.m. in the opening first round contest on Friday (4 p.m.) before Brockport hosts Coast Guard in the second first round matchup.  The NCAA second round will take place on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. between the winners of the two first round matchups at Brockport's Jim & John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

Storied NCAA History: Brockport has won nine SUNYAC titles in program-history, including three under the guidance of 13th year Head Coach Greg Dunne.  The Golden Eagles are making their 13th NCAA Tournament appearance in program-history, with the last time coming in 2018. Brockport has two NCAA Final Four Appearances in program-history (1973, 1975), two Elite 8 appearances (2002, 2007) and three Sweet 16 appearances (1997, 2001, 2007).

SUNYAC Coach of the Year: Newly minted SUNYAC Coach of the Year Greg Dunne has a 233-128 career record, including a 2013-14 season that saw the Golden Eagles finish with a 24-4 overall record, a SUNYAC Title and hosting rights for the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships. This year's 17-1 ledger in SUNYAC league play was a new career best for Dunne.  Dunne now has two SUNYAC Coach of the Year Awards under his belt ('13-'14 & '19-'20). In 2014 he was named the Glenn Robinson National Coach of the Year.  Dunne was also recently named the HoopDirt.com Division III National Coach of the Week in a release by the popular basketball website last week.

All-League Picks: Jahidi WallaceTyler Collins and Justin Summers collected All-SUNYAC honors in a release by the conference office on Wednesday.  Wallace was a first-team selection, while Collins and Summers each earned second team recognition.  Wallace, a sophomore, led the team in scoring this season, averaging 14.1 points a game while shooting 55% from the field. Wallace was also incredibly effective at getting to the free throw line, shooting 76.8% at the line with 168 free throws attempted. Collins averaged 12.4 points a game and set career-highs with 336 total points, 106 assists, 83 rebounds, 50 steals, five blocks, and 50 made 3-pointers. Summers is now a three-time all-conference selection.  Despite playing in only 18 games this year, he has the third highest point total of 279 points and averages a team-best 15.5 points per game. He has corralled 110 rebounds, averaging 6.1 a game, and was top five in the conference with 31 blocks.

SUNYAC Tournament Recap: Brockport wont he SUNYAC regular season crown after just one league loss, earning a first round bye and hosting rights for the SUNYAC Tournament.  The Golden Eagles toppled Oswego 82-67 in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Championship by the score of 82-67 on Friday.  Tyler Collins and Danny Ashley led the way, both putting up 18 points in the win over the Lakers. Collins dished out six assists and had six boards, while Ashley tallied four assists. The starting guard tandem shot a combined total of 15-for-24.  In the championship game, the Golden Eagles showed no signs of slowing down, and cruised to a 102-75 victory over NCAA bubble team Potsdam.  After putting up a game-high 23 points, Tyler Collins was named the SUNYAC Championships MVP. Justin SummersDanny Ashley and Devante Hagins were also named to the All-Tournament Team for Brockport. 

Coming in HOT: The Golden Eagles closed out a stellar regular season with two overtime victories and cruised through the SUNYAC Tournament, downing their opponents by an average of 21.0 points per game. Brockport has won 17 straight games, with their last loss coming on the road at Potsdam on January 10th.

Home Sweet Home: Brockport is a perfect 13-0 at home this season and over the course of the last five home games they have outscored opponents by an average of 28.6 points per victory.  Brockport has won by 10+ points in 10 of the 13 home games this year. 
 
In the National Spotlight: Brockport moved up five spots to No. 18 in the most recent D3hoops.com National Poll released Monday afternoon by the highly popular NCAA Division III basketball website.  The Golden Eagles are also the top ranked team in the East Region according to the final release of the NCAA Division III Regional Rankings.  Regional rankings are compiled by the NCAA Division III men's basketball regional and national committees.
 
Scoring with the Best of 'Em: Brockport is the top scoring team in the SUNYAC Conference with an average of 85.3 points per contest.  The Golden Eagles rank second nationally in free throw attempts (743) and fourth nationally in free throws made (497).  They also rank eighth in the nation in steals per game (10.9) and ninth in turnovers forced per game (19.44).

DEEP Squad: Danny Ashley ranks 29nd nationally and first in the conference with 58 total steals this season. Ashley also ranks third in the league and 61st nationally with a 2.13 assist/turnover ratio.  Devonte Hagins is averaging 8.4 points per game and Ashley is averaging 8.0 points per game.
