How it Happened

The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins men's basketball team got a combined 34 points from junior Conner Delaney and sophomore Tom Quarry en route to a 70-52 win over Haverford in the Centennial Conference semifinals.

It was a defensive battle early as Haverford jumped out to a 9-2 lead at the 11:21-mark. Coming out of a timeout, a Delaney layup ignited a 9-2 Hopkins' run that put the Blue Jays up 13-11 with 8:02 to go in the half.

Jesse Turkson tied the game at 13-all with a layup, but the Blue Jays answered with 17-2 run to take a 30-15 lead into the half. Delaney and senior Harry O'Neil combined for 11 of the 17 points to fuel the run. Delaney put the punctuation on the half with 15-foot pull-up jumper that rattled home as time expired.

Hopkins opened the half with five quick points, pushing the lead to 20, and prompting a Haverford timeout. The Fords responded with six straight points to pull back within 14 at the 17:17-mark. An O'Neil and-one ended the run and sparked a 6-2 spurt to make it an 18-point game just three minutes later.

The teams then combined for four straight three pointers and Hopkins led 47-29 at the 12:49-mark. The teams traded buckets over the remainder of the game as the lead swelled to as much as 22 and never dipped below 16.
