Buena Vista Now 13-2 after 93-77 Road Win at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (January 11, 2020) - Dominic Sesma led Buena Vista with 21 points as five players finished in double figures, and the Beavers used a strong and balanced performance on Saturday afternoon en route to a 93-77 road victory at the University of Dubuque.

Sesma, who hit the game-winning shot in overtime on Wednesday night at Loras, was 7-of-10 from the field and made a pair from long distance and all five at the free-throw line.  He also grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists.  Timothy Jeffries and Michael Demers both scored 14 points and each grabbed six rebounds.  Lincoln Rock and DJ McNeal chipped in with 10 points apiece with Rock also grabbing six boards and a game-high four steals.

Dubuque opened up a 15-5 lead in the first five minutes of the game before a three-pointer by Garrett Sittner capped an 18-7 run that gave BVU a 23-22 advantage, and the Beavers never trailed again.  The lead grew to as many as eight in the first half before taking a 43-36 lead into the half.

A 23-11 start to begin the second half extended the margin to the largest of the game at 66-47 and BVU would not let the lead get under 13 the rest of the way.  The Beavers shot 50 percent from the field in both halves and finished 26-of-32 at the charity stripe.

Mitch Burger scored 13 points to pace the Spartans (9-5, 2-3 A-R-C).

The win is the third straight overall for the Beavers who are now 13-2 overall and alone in second place in the A-R-C standings at 4-2.  The team will look to extend the win streak when it returns home on Wednesday, January 15, to host Simpson College (8-6, 2-3 A-R-C) at 7:30 p.m.
