JACKSON, Miss. -- LeTourneau University men's basketball team won the Millsaps Classic Sunday night, beating Millsaps, 87-77. The YellowJackets won both of their games at the weekend tournament, becoming the only team to go unbeaten.

It was LeTourneau's second win over Millsaps in the Hangar Dome in nine days. The YellowJackets (4-1) beat the Majors (3-3) to open the season, 90-66.

"I am really proud of our team for their grit and resilience tonight," Jackets sixth-year head coach Dan Miller said. "Millsaps came out and took it to us in the first half, beating us to spots and the ball. I thought the second half displayed our team toughness, and our defense took it over the top. We did a great job with pressure and beating them to spots for the steals tonight."

The YellowJackets forced a season-high 29 turnovers, and had a season-high 18 steals. They also shot a season-best .477 from the field. But it didn't come easy.

The Majors led by as many as 10 in the first half, taking a 37-27 advantage on Ryan McLaurin's three-point field goal with 6:36 to go. The YellowJackets went on a 9-2 run, which included a basket in the paint by Andrew Eberhardt, a layup by John Argue, a free throw by Rashard Johnson and two buckets by Nate West, to close within 39-36. Anthony Hughes connected on a jumper with 11 seconds left on the clock to send Millsaps into the break up five.

LETU outscored Millsaps, 18-9, in points off turnovers in the first half. The Jackets also outscored the Majors, 20-12, in the paint. But Millsaps beat LeTourneau in transition, outscoring the YellowJackets, 13-4.

LeTourneau turned the tables in the second half.

Eberhardt and Argue canned back-to-back triples in a 28-second span, which was triggered by Warren Richardson's block, to tie the game at 47. Eberhardt hit a fastbreak basket in the paint to give LETU the lead, but Joshua Miller responded with a transition basket of his own as the Majors reclaimed a three-point edge. With 10:26 to play, Justin Moore threw down a dunk to put the Jackets ahead, 56-55.

West drained a transition three to push LeTourneau out to a four-point lead, but She'Chem Grant hit a 3-pointer as Millsaps trimmed it back to one. West tripled again at the 7:02 mark, and then split a pair from the stripe as the Jackets stretched their lead to six. The Majors answered with a 5-0 run, culminated on a pair of James Turner free throws, to cut it to 69-68 with 5:48 left on the clock.

Argue buried another one of his four 3s, and Moore scored in transition as the YellowJackets rebuilt the lead back to six. Brick Fosnight sank a pair from the line, and West made his next four free throws and scored in the paint as LETU extended its lead to nine on two occasions to put the game away.

West finished with 33 points on 12 of 23 shooting, and had seven assists and four steals. Argue scored 18 points, going 7 of 14 from the field, and had five rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Moore had 15 points, seven boards and a career-high five steals. Eberhardt had nine points, four rebounds and three steals. Hughes finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Kalvin Spikes had 13 points and 10 boards for the Majors.

LeTourneau shot 57 percent in the second half, going 16 of 28 from the floor. The Jackets held the Majors to 13 of 33 shooting for 39 percent in the second half.

"The guys will look forward to the day off tomorrow, and then get back to practice to clean some things up," Miller said, "but I am very thankful for how this team competes and stays together."

The YellowJackets will host Centenary 7 p.m. Dec. 3 in the home opener. Early-arriving students will receive a free Blue Crew t-shirt.
