Sewanee Men’s Basketball Cruises Past Belhaven in Saturday Matinee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's basketball team extended a 10-point halftime lead to a 24-point victory over Belhaven University in a non-conference contest, 89-65, inside Juhan Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After Belhaven made back-to-back field goals 90 seconds into the game, the Tigers went on a big run, going on a 19-2 run to lead 21-6 with 9:38 left in the opening half.

-Sewanee's defense came into play once again in Saturday's contest. The Tigers held the Blazers to 3-of-16 in the first 11:30 of the game. Additionally, the Blazers did not make a 3-pointer until the 6:39 mark in the first half, missing their first 10 attempts from downtown.

-Despite BU cutting the deficit to single digits with 3:55 left in the half, Sewanee extended the lead back to 10 points, 42-32, at the break.

-Sewanee shot 50% (18-of-36) from the field and out-rebounded the visitors, 24-18, in the second half.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Joey Knox and Adrian Thomas each led the Tigers with 17 points. Knox shot 8-of-17 from the field and added four assists, while Thomas posted a 7-of-10 performance in the game and corralled seven boards.

-Jordan Warlick posted a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 14 boards in the win. The Irmo, S.C. native surpassed his previous high of 11 rebounds set last Nov. 20 at Covenant.

-Ryan Starr added 15 points, six rebounds and five steals.

-As a team, the Purple and Gold shot 48.6% from the field (36-of-74) and posted a season-best in rebounds (47) and steals (11)in the win.

BELHAVEN KEY STATISTICS
-Ryan Dupree led the Blazers with 16 points, while Brosnan Cooks added 11 points and eight rebounds.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will continue this current four-game homestand on Tuesday against Piedmont. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m., following the women's basketball contest against Emory, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
