Rochester, N.Y., Feb. 10, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team found themselves down early on and could not respond in a 78-48 loss at the University of Rochester Sunday in Rochester, N.Y.

Rochester won its fourth-straight game to improve to 18-4 and 8-3 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while WashU suffered its second-straight defeat and dropped to 14-8 and 7-4 in the conference. Rochester is in a tie with Emory for first place in the UAA standings, while WashU and Chicago is a game back.

WashU shot a season-low 33.3 percent (17-51) from the field, and the 48 points were also a season low. Freshman forward Justin Hardy led WashU with 10 points, while sophomore guard Payden Webb had a career-high nine points off the bench.

WashU started the game 0-for-6 from the field with four turnovers and trailed 11-0 in the opening five minutes of play. Nolan's three-pointer with 14:54 to play ended the drought. Hardy's three-point play and a bucket by junior forward Hank Hunter trimmed the Rochester advantage to 20-16.

Rochester went on a 14-4 run to end the half to take a commanding 37-21 lead. Hardy led the Bears with seven points as WashU shot 29.2 percent (7-24) from the field and hit just 4-of-10 from the free-throw line. Rochester also had a 13-3 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Yellowjackets had an 10-2 run early in the second half to open up a 22-point lead (47-25) with 15:16 to play.

Ryan Clamage led Rochester with 23 points. The Yellowjackets shot 60.4 percent (32-53) from the field and hit 10-of-20 three-pointers. 

WashU return home to entertain New York University (7-15 1-10 UAA) on Friday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. The Bears will be hosting Eliot Night and is designated as a #RedOut.
