Davidson Breaks DIII Consecutive Free Throw Record In Wabash Win Over Kenyon

Harrison Hallstrom posted a double-double Saturday afternoon with 15 rebounds and 14 points to pace Wabash to a 96-79 home victory over Kenyon College in North Coast Athletic Conference men's basketball action.

Sophomore Jack Davidson extended his consecutive free throws made streak to 89 by going 9-for-9 at the line. He broke the all-time NCAA Division III record for consecutive free throws made held by Dirk Rhinehart from Kalamazoo College (84 from Jan. 3 to Dec. 17, 2001). Davidson is six makes away from owning the free throw record for all NCAA divisions held by Paul Cluxton from Northern Kentucky University (DII) of 94 in the 2000-2001 season.

Wabash (19-4, 13-3 NCAC) led from start to finish, but needed a 21-0 scoring run over the course of five minutes in the second half to put Kenyon (1-22, 0-16 NCAC) away in the contest. The Little Giants led 44-34 at halftime but Kenyon closed to within four points at 51-47 five minutes into the second period. Elijah Davis sparked the run for the Lords by scoring six of Kenyon's 13 points to open the second half. Davis finished with a team-high 19 points for Kenyon.

Alex Eberhard started the huge scoring run for Wabash with a jumper in the lane for two of his 13 points. Colten Garland scored the next four points, followed by a three-pointer by Kellen Schreiber. Garland added three more free throws to boost the lead to 63-47. Tyler Watson added a three-point play to extend the lead to 19 points with 12:20 showing on the game clock.

Eberhard added two free throws to extend the lead to 67-47. Schreiber completed the run with back-to-back trips to the free throw line to push the score to 71-47. Wabash shot 93.8 percent from the line for the game, connecting on 30-of-32 attempts. The Little Giants finished 28-of-55 from the field for 50.9 percent and hit 10-of-25 three-point tries for 40 percent.

Davidson scored 22 points to lead Wabash in scoring. Schreiber tossed in 15 points. Garland added 12 points for the Little Giants, as well. Hallstrom's double-double was his fourth of the season.

Three Kenyon players joined Davis as double-digit scorers. Ugnius Zilinskas finished with 17 points. Christian Watanabe added 16 points, and Carter Powell scored 13 points.

Wabash travels to Wittenberg Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. tipoff for its final road game of the regular season. The Little Giants hold a one-game lead over the Tigers for second place in the NCAC standings. Wabash trails the College of Wooster for first place by one game heading into the final two games of the regular season.
