THE BASICS:

- The Lead: Led by a career high 31 points from sophomore Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.), the No. 7 MIT men's basketball team earned an 88-63 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win over Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon in Norton. The win gives the Engineers a sweep of the regular-season series with the Lyons as MIT now leads the all-time series by a 29-21 margin.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Both teams traded buckets over the open 4:35 of the game before the Engineers went on an 11-6 run that was capped by a three pointer by senior Cameron Korb (Los Gatos, Calif.) which gave MIT an eight-point advantage at 20-12 midway through the stanza. The run featured four points from senior Tim Roberts (Oak Bluffs, Mass.), three from Korb and classmate Bradley Jomard (Paris, France) and two via Hinkley. 

- A three by Wheaton's Niles Cohen scored with 8:47 left to play in the first half cut MIT's advantage to just four at 22-18, but over the next three minutes Hinkley answered for the Engineers by scoring 12 of the games next 19 points as MIT ballooned its lead to 15 at 37-22, forcing the Lyons to call a timeout.

- MIT maintained its double-digit advantage through the end of the first half as a jumper by senior AJ Jurko (Weston, Fla.) made the score 46-31 in favor of the Engineers at the break.

- Hinkley scored three consecutive three pointers and Roberts added a jumper for MIT over the first 4:35 of the second half which grew the Engineers lead to 24 at 57-33 early in the stanza. Six minutes later, Hinkley drained another three to make the score 73-44 and forced Wheaton to call another timeout midway through the second.

- MIT registered its largest lead of the game of 32 after first-year Alex Cho (San Diego, Calif.) scored a three pointer from the corner and the Engineers never looked back as they took home their ninth conference win of the season by an 88-63 final over Wheaton on the road. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Three Engineers scored in double figures in today's contest highlighted by Hinkley's career-high 31 points. Jomard added 16 points, seven assists and three rebounds, while Roberts tallied 12 points on a 6-for-6 shooting performance from the field and had nine rebounds as he came up one board short of his 16th double-double of the season. 

- Wheaton was paced by David Carbonello, who registered 18 points, five assists, three steals and a rebound, while off the bench Robby Lowey tallied nine points and five rebound for the Lyons.

- MIT held a 34-23 advantage in rebounds and forced 15 Wheaton turnovers. The Engineers shot at a 57.9-percent clip from the field and 45.9-percent from beyond the arc. As a team, MIT dished out a season-high 26 assists, 14 of which came from Jurko and seven of which came from Jomard. 

- MIT is ranked seventh in this week's D3Hoops.com National Poll as the Engineers are up two spots from No. 9 in last week's rankings.
