Oliveras’ Career-High Paces Keuka College Men’s Basketball Victory

ABINGTON, Pa. — The Keuka College Men's Basketball team defeated Penn St.-Abington 74-65 on the road on Saturday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference contest.

Sophomore David Oliveras (Great Mills, Md. / Great Mills) led all scorers with 21 points on Saturday. Trevor Powell (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn) and James Barnes (Rochester, N.Y. / University Prep) each added 11 points for Keuka College (8-9, 5-5 NEAC). Powell added 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.

Keuka College 74 at Penn St.-Abington 65

The Wolves jumped out to an early lead over the Nittany Lions. Keuka College shutout Penn St.-Abington for the first three minutes of play. The Green and Gold played with the lead for the duration of the first half. The Wolves pushed the margin to double-digits at 26-16 following a pair of Trevor Powell free throws with nine minutes left in the half. The Wolves closed the half on a 12-2 run over the final four minutes to lead 47-27 at the break.

Penn St.-Abington fought to stay in the game. The Nittany Lions made five three-pointers to cut into the Wolves lead. They shrunk the lead to single digits with four minutes left to play. With just under two minutes left to play, Abington made a layup to make it a four-point game at 67-63. The Wolves were able to have an answer from the free throw line. Keuka College made their shots down the stretch as they held onto the 74-65 conference victory.

  • David Oliveras broke his previous career high in scoring, 20 points, which he did against Penn St. Abington last season

  • Powell went 7-7 from the free throw line. The senior now has 82 free throws on the season, seventh most in a season in program history

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will look to close out the weekend with another North Eastern Athletic Conference road victory on Sunday as the Wolves travel to SUNY Cobleskill to face the Fighting Tigers. The two teams split the series last season with the road team winning in each game.
