Hot Shooting Lifts York (Pa.) to Win Over FSU

YORK, PA – The York College men's basketball team used a fast start and a big first half to race by Frostburg State University 87-75 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night in York. The game opened a season-high three game home stand as York has now won four of their last five and three straight at home. Four Spartans reached double figures in the win.

How It Happened

• The Spartans jumped all over the Bobcats early as they took an 18-4 lead less than seven minutes into the game. Senior Mike Frauenheim started the run with a three pointer in York's second possession to get the Green and White rolling. The Spartans pushed the lead to 16 on a Jason Bady triple with 11:43 left in the first half.

• Frostburg cut the lead to 13 at 28-15 but the Spartans responded with a 19-4 run, pushing the lead to a half-high of 28 at 47-19 with 2:58 left in the opening half. York went cold the remainder of the half as the Bobcats finished the stanza on an 8-0 run, cutting the lead to 20 at the break.

• The Bobcats scored the opening four points of the half as York continued their cold streak. Junior Darin Gordon broke the seal with a deep three-pointer and the Spartan offense got cranked back up. The York lead eventually grew to 32 points on a Bady three-point play as York led 77-45 with 8:57 left in the game. The Spartans went to the bench shortly after as the Bobcats elected to press the Spartan reserves. FSU outscored York 30-10 over the final eight plus minutes of the game to make the score appear far closer than it really was.

The Spartan win is their fifth in the last six in the series … Frostburg State still holds a 19-17 lead in the all-time series … the appearance is the final regular season appearance in York as a Capital Athletic Conference opponents as the Bobcats are leaving the CAC to go Division II at the conclusion of the academic year … senior Mike Frauenheim tallied a career-high 14 points as he was 4-for-4 from the floor including 3-for-3 from three and 3-for-4 from the line … sophomore David Giuliani recorded a career-high 10 points while he also had three rebounds and a blocked shot … junior Zach Novick tied his career-high with eight rebounds … York finished the game shooting 52.4% from the floor and that's the fifth time they have shot better than 50% from the field in a game … York is now 5-0 when shooting better than 50% from the floor … York converted 10 three pointers and that's the 12th time this year they have made at least 10 triples in a game … York shot a season-worst 57.9% from the stripe, making just 11-of-19 … York entered the game ranked first in the CAC in free throw percentage at 73.9% … York won the battle on the glass for seventh time this year … York is 7-0 when winning the battle on the glass … the 20 point lead at the half was the second largest advantage heading to the locker room (23 points vs. Southern Virginia) … the game marked the half way point of the CAC schedule as the Spartans went 5-2 with both losses coming on the road … York is now 6-1 at home and 3-0 in the league … York will have four of their last seven at home.
