Rochester Men Post Convincing Win Over Case Western Reserve

The University of Rochester men's basketball team defeated Case Western Reserve University on Monday afternoon by a score of 81-68. With the win, the Yellowjackets improve to 13-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while the loss puts the Spartans at an even 8-8 with a conference record of 1-4.

UR got off to a slow start, trailing 5-0 before Andrew Lundstrom opened up the scoring for the Yellowjackets with 17:35 left in the first half. After trading baskets for the next few minutes, Rochester pulled ahead for their first lead of the game with 13:12 remaining in the first half.

Case Western was up by 1 with 8:36 remaining in the half. Ryan Clamage stepped up to the free throw line, draining both shots to give the Yellowjackets a 21-20 lead. Rochester took the lead and never looked back, leading 41-34 at the half.

In the second half, Rochester would just continue to dominate. The Yellowjackets scored another 40 points on the Spartans, leading by as many as 20, for a 13 point victory over their conference opponent.

Clamage and Ryan Algier led the way for Rochester. Clamage, who was coming off of a career high 41 points on Friday, led the way for the Yellowjackets. The 6-5 senior posted his second double-double of the season, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Algier came off the bench and made significant contributions for Rochester, shooting 9 of 11 from the floor for a career-high 18 points.

As a team, the Yellowjackets would go on to shoot 55% from the floor and 46.7% from beyond the arc. Rochester also took control of the boards, seizing 38 rebounds to the Spartans 29.

Case Western was led by Sam Hansen, who dropped 11 points, and Solomon Wells who scored 8 for the Spartans.    

UR returns to action on Friday January 25 as the Yellowjackets are set to host New York University at 8pm in the Palestra.
