Birmingham-Southern Tops Wesley to Open Black Tie Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team opened up its Black Tie Classic against Wesley College on Thursday night, defeating the Wolverines 94-82.

Sophomore forward Christian Stewart (Irondale, Ala./Shades Valley HS) dropped 25 points, a career high, to lead the Panthers in scoring.

Stewart's layup with 13:05 to go in the first half gave BSC an 11-10 lead, which the Panthers never surrendered.

Two other Panthers, Calvin Bak (Muscle Shoals, Ala./Muscle Shoals HS) and Zachary Allison (Pelham, Ala./Wallace State CC), also scored in double-digits with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Sophomore Ben Spence (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) led BSC with 11 rebounds on the evening.

With the win, the Panthers improve to 6-2 on the season.

Continuing the Black Tie Classic on Friday, Wesley and the Pfeiffer University Falcons will face off in Bill Battle Coliseum at 5 p.m. Birmingham-Southern will play against Pfeiffer in the final game of the Black Tie Classic on Saturday, December 15 at 7 p.m.
