DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University men's basketball team got three double-doubles and placed five players in double figure scoring to earn an 88-61 victory over Manhattanville College in its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener.

Both teams now sit at 4-3 overall, but the Aggies are off to a 1-0 start in league play.

The game was tied at 10-10 early, before Lybrant Robinson came off the bench for DelVal and capped a 5-0 spurt to make it 15-10.

The Valiants went on an 11-0 run over the next 3:40 of play to take its largest lead of the game, 21-15. Sean Smith, Jr. had a pair of buckets and Jojo Cobbs knocked down a three to highlight the run.

The Aggies fought back to tie the game at 25-25 and continued on to score the next six points to take a 31-25 advantage with 4:18 left in the half. Damian Washington put a bow on the spurt with a big dunk as he drove baseline.

Smith hit a pair of treys in the final minute of the first half, and DelVal held a 34-33 advantage at the break.

The Aggies used a 9-2 run to begin the second half to go up 43-35. Andre Butler hit his second trey of the game and Alex Matsinye sprung Damien Singleton for a fast break layup with one of his two steals in the game.

Manhattanville pulled to within two points of the lead on two different occasions, but could never overcome the DelVal lead as the Aggies outscored the Valiants 47-35 in the second half to close out the 88-61 victory.

DelVal shot 27-for-66 (40.9%) from the field and just 3-for-12 from three-point land, but held Manhattanville to 25-of-74 (33.8%) shooting from the field and 8-of-27 (29.6%) from beyond the arc.

Butler led the squad with 17 points followed by 15 from Robinson off the bench, 13 points apiece from Washington and Mike Cianciulli, and a 10 point effort from Matsinye to round out the double-digit scorers. Robinson and Washington each had 12 boards and Ciancuilli pulled down 10 of his own to give the Aggies a trio of double-doubles.

The Valiants were led by Smith's 25 points and 10 rebounds and Cobbs' 21 points and seven boards. Jake Dunn and Mike Granda each had seven points and Dunn recorded five steals.

DelVal will look to ride its momentum into another MAC Freedom showdown at Eastern University on Saturday, December 8 at 3 p.m.
