Adler Goes Off in Win at West Coast Baptist

LANCASTERJacob Adler got hot in the second half as the Occidental men's basketball team continued its undefeated start to the season with a 98-66 win at West Coast Baptist on Saturday.

Adler, a sophomore guard from Portland, Ore., was instant offense in the second half, scoring 19 of his 21 points in a 7-minute stretch as the Tigers pushed a 19-point halftime lead well above 30 points. He hit five threes during the run, finishing the game 5 for 8 from beyond the 3-point line. He also shot 6 for 10 from the field, made all four of his free throws and grabbed four rebounds in 21 minutes played.

Austin DeWitz added 16 points and seven rebounds, Zach Baines scored 16 points, Caleb Yellin-Flaherty had 15 points and six rebounds, Jonny Crosthwaite had 13 pionts and nine rebounds, and Ryan Kaneshiro filled up the stat sheet with four points, seven rebounds, eight assists and a pair of steals. 

Tyler Sweeney gave Oxy a nice spark off the bench in the first half, finishing with five points and two rebounds.

All 12 suited Oxy players saw court time. Brandon Ruotolo, Kyle Dosa, Taso Warsa, Gabe Gregory and Forrest Nishi all played the last 5 minutes of the game.

Seth Hanna led West Coast Baptist with 16 points, Joseph Lowe had 13 points off the bench and Stephen Wheeler added 12. 

It is the second time this season that the Tigers have beaten the Golden Eagles. Oxy won 99-72 in the first meeting between the teams at Rush Gym on Nov. 19.

Oxy is 2-0 on the road this season. The Tigers beat Caltech 68-59 in their season opener on Nov. 16.

Next Game: Oxy hits an important stretch of its season, beginning at La Verne for its first SCIAC game of the season on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. The Tigers will also play Whittier in a SCIAC matchup, Cal Miramar, Principia and Pacific (Ore.) before breaking for the Holiday.
