OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Oswego State men's basketball remained perfect on the year by easily handing Nazareth College its first loss of the year at home on Tuesday night. Nazareth entered the game receiving 32 votes in the D3hoops.com national rankings while the Lakers have now won each of its four games by double-digit margins.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Quinn Carey – who was honored prior to the game for reaching 1,000 points in his collegiate career last Tuesday (see photo at right) – opened the contest with a 3-pointer to set the tone for the night.

Nazareth was able to lead the game for just 26 seconds over 40 minutes of play, coming at 6-5 in the early goings.

Once Oswego regained the lead, it never looked back, pushing its advantage to as many as 20 points in the final five minutes of regulation.

The Lakers did fight off an early second half push by the Golden Flyers, as their lead was cut to five at 42-37.

Oswego rattled off a 14-2 response to the Nazareth comeback attempt over a 5:05 span, including six Tyler Pierre points and a pair of treys from Liam Sanborn and Brandan Gartland.

Pierre had a monster night, recording his first double-double of the year with a game-high tying 18 points to go along with a game-best 15 rebounds.

The senior had six of his boards on the offensive glass, distributed three assists to teammates and turned the Golden Flyers over three times.

Tying with Pierre for points was Sanborn, aided by a near-perfect night from beyond the arc (3-for-4).

Sanborn continued to be the floor general as well, accounting for a game-high seven assists.

Pierre's frontcourt mate Joe Sullivan stuffed the state sheet also, including his own double-double, the forwards second of the season.

Sullivan corralled 14 caroms and scored 11 points on 50-percent shooting from both the field and 3-point land.

The junior was also a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe, stole away three possessions from Nazareth and dished out two helpers.

Oswego dominated the glass by a 15-rebound margin (49-24) and its defense gave the Golden Flyers fits.

Nazareth was only able to shoot 35-percent from the field and 20-percent from distance.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will put its unblemished record on the line to open SUNYAC play when they welcome Geneseo to campus for a 7:30 p.m. tilt on Friday.
