PITTSFORD, N.Y.— Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) scored a career-high 31 points, leading a balanced Buffalo State attack, as the Bengals escaped with a 94-89 victory over St. John Fisher in non-conference action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Adams finished 8 of 12 from the field and 4 of 8 for the charity stripe, while tallying 11 made free throws. He also added five rebounds and three steals.
  • Dom Grayer (Brooklyn/Bishop Loughlin) chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and three assists.
  • Kay Grant (Jamaica/Thomas Jefferson) finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Ryniek Holloway (Corona/Bayside) added 10 points and five assists.
  • Zion Guzman Milton (Valley Stream/Valley Stream South) and Zak Ciezki (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) chipped in 12 points and 11 points respectively off the bench.
  • St. John Fisher stormed out of the gates by scoring 13 of the first 15 points and extended the lead to 27-13 with just over eight minutes left in the first half.
  • Buffalo State outscored the Cardinals 26-17 over the rest of the first stanza to cut the lead to 44-39 at intermission.
  • St. John Fisher maintained the slim lead and used a pair of free throws to take a 61-55 lead with 12:28 left in the second half. The Bengals responded with a 9-2 run to claim its first lead of the contest, 64-63, with 9:36 left.
  • Buffalo State held on to the lead until a 3-pointer by Adams and layup by Grant gave the Bengals a 75-70 lead with just over four minutes remaining.
  • St. John Fisher closed the gap down to three points, but Buffalo State made timely baskets to escape with the win.
  • Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor while Buffalo State held a 28-2 advantage in bench points.

 

FOR THE FOES

  • Sammy Robinson led the Cardinals with 33 points and six rebounds.
  • Ryan Henderson chipped in 23 points and seven rebounds, while Matt Asenjo added 14 points.
