Giants drop another heartbreaker to Marywood, this time in overtime

LaPLUME, Pa.—The Keystone College men's basketball team failed to hang on to another halftime lead once again against Marywood University in Colonial States Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening at the Gambal Athletic Center.

On January 9, the Pacers overcame a 22-point halftime lead to pull out a dramatic 81-79 victory over the Giants.  This time, Marywood erased a 9-point halftime margin en route to a 66-61 win in overtime, thanks, in part, to junior forward Jeremy Ringland, who scored all 20 of his game-high points after intermission.

Senior guard Thomas Swartz finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds and James Curley and Donovan Catchings combined for 22 points as Marywood improved to 11-7 overall and 6-6 in the CSAC.  The Pacers knocked down 3 of 5 shots from the field in the overtime period and converted 14 of 19 free throw attempts, including 7 of 8 in the extra stanza, to sweep the regular-season series with Keystone for the second straight year.

Keystone, now 7-10 overall and 6-5 in conference play, was led by junior guard Mark Perry with 15 points and 13 rebounds—his third 'double double' in five games since transferring from Millersville University—and senior guard Mark Gilliam and sophomore center John Kirkpatrick added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

In regulation, the Giants led by four with 5:14 remaining before the Pacers fought back and tied it at 53 on a 3-pointer by Ringland with 55 seconds left.   Both teams had an opportunity to win it in the final minute but were unable to capitalize on the offensive end.

Ringland scored Marywood's first four points of the overtime period to give the Pacers the lead for good.    Keystone, which shot less than 33 percent from the field, continued to struggle finding the range in overtime, making just 3 of 9 shot attempts.  The Giants also turned the ball over with five seconds remaining after Swartz made two free throws to give Marywood a 64-61 lead.  With one second left, Curley sealed it for the Pacers by canning two charity tosses.

Ringland also finished with nine rebounds, four assists, four blocks and two steals in 41 minutes of action.  He was 8 of 13 from the field in the second half after going 0 for 2 in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Keystone returns to action this Saturday, January 27, against Neumann University in Aston, Pa., beginning at 1:00 p.m.
