WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Scranton men's basketball team five first-half field goals and was never able to recover in a 76-52 loss at Catholic on Saturday afternoon in the DuFour Center.

Scranton (8-9, 4-2 Landmark) saw its six-game winning streak snapped after falling behind 37-17 at halftime. The Royals went 5-for-26 (19.2 percent) from the field in the first half. They recovered to hit 14 of 34 (41.2 percent) in the second half, but it was too late as Catholic (10-7, 4-2 Landmark) protected its lead the rest of the way.

Senior forward Drew Schankweiler (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) had another strong game in the loss. He finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, and went 7-for-11 from the field, raising his field goal percentage to 67.4 for the season.

Senior guard Ethan Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) added a double-double, his first of the season, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Scranton finished the afternoon going 19-for-60 (31.7 percent) from the field, including 8-for-29 (27.6 percent) from 3-point range. The Royals made 6 of 11 (54.5 percent) at the free throw line and committed 14 turnovers.

Catholic received a game-high 26 points and eight rebounds from Jay Howard. Riley Hayes added 15 points and eight rebounds, and Jimmy Golaszeweski finished with 12 points and seven boards.

The Cardinals shot 45.6 percent (26-for-57) from the field, including 5-for-12 (41.7 percent) from 3-point range. They made 19 of 24 (79.2 percent) at the free throw line, committed 13 turnovers and won the rebounding battle, 46-32.

The defeat moves the Royals into a tie for second in the Landmark Conference with Catholic. The Royals and Cardinals both trail Drew, which is unbeaten at 6-0 in conference play.

The University of Scranton men's basketball team will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 24, when they host Drew in a Landmark Conference game at 7 p.m. in the Long Center.
