THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – On Wednesday, the Maritime basketball team fell to the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins by the score of 58-51 from the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
 
The Privateers were led by senior Patrick MacDonald(Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while senior John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman)added 11 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Brendan McGovern (Seaford, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) had seven points, while junior James Bonner (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) netted five points and pulled down six rebounds.
 
Freshman Brennan Whelan (Northport, N.Y./Northport) collected four points, while senior Josh Raime(Elmont, N.Y./Holy Cross) and sophomore Michael Walker (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) each had two points in the matchup.
 
Liccese led the team with five assists, while Whelan added three and MacDonald notched two assists. MacDonald also tallied two blocks, while Liccese led the team with three steals.
 
Maritime fell behind early at 13-2 with 13:14 left in the first half, as both teams maintained long possessions in the early stages of the contest. Liccese connected on a three-pointer but Mount St. Vincent's lead swelled up to 27-9 with 4:25 left in the opening stanza.
 
The Privateers went into the halftime break trailing by nine at 31-22 as Bonner knocked down a three-pointer from the corner.
 
MacDonald opened up the second half with a layup followed by a three-pointer by McGovern to slice the deficit back down to four at 31-27. Eventually Maritime got it within one possession as MacDonald connected on a layup with 16:20 left in regulation.
 
The Dolphins got the lead up to eight with 7:05 left in the game but McGovern responded with four unanswered points. Mount St. Vincent closed out the game with three unanswered to extend the lead and ultimately the victory by seven points.
 
Maritime (6-7, 3-6 Skyline) will be back in action on the road this Saturday, when the team heads to nearby Sarah Lawrence for a 1 p.m. start from the Campbell Sports Center.
 
Mount St. Vincent (8-5, 6-2 Skyline) will head back home for the first of three-straight at the Peter J. Sharp Center, and will host the Purchase Panthers for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
