Blue Devils can't catch up to Warhawks, fall 69-55

WHITEWATER (January 13, 2018) - UW-Stout's Isaac Elliott scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the second half, but it was UW-Whitewater that would pull away with a 69-55 victory over the Blue Devils Saturday at Kachel Gym.

The Blue Devils (6-9, 0-4 WIAC) shot 52 percent in the first half, while the Warhawks (13-2, 3-1 WIAC) shot 39 percent. Both teams recorded the same number of field goal, and it was Whitewater that held a five-point, 32-27, halftime lead, hitting one more 3-pointer and four more free throws than Stout.

Whitewater, ranked fifth in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, very slowly pulled away in the second half, and held a 12-point, 46-34, lead at the 12 minute mark. The Blue Devils did cut the lead down to eight points, 62-54, with three minutes remaining on Elliott's jump, but that would be as close as they would get.

Elliott connected on 8 of 13 shots from the floor and drained four 3-pointers, two in each half. Freshman Joe Duty scored 10 points for the Blue Devils.

Andre Brown scored 20 points to lead the fifth-ranked Warhawks. Dalton Menk scored 11 points and David Sachs 10.

The Blue Devils did help their own cause by committing 19 turnovers, nine over their season average.

Stout will host UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. in the second half of a double header with the womens' programs.
