Strong Second Half Leads Nazareth over Alfred, 87-67

ROCHESTER, NY – Host Nazareth used a 12-0 spurt early in the second half and never looked back, earning an 87-67 victory over Alfred Friday night in its first home conference contest of the season.  Nazareth saw five players score in double figures, led by Jake Burgio (9-for-14) and Tyler Stenglein (5-for-12) each going for 22 points.  Cody Green notched 14 points (5-for-9), Brendan Wind had 12 (5-for-9), while Stephen Gabel contributed 11 (3-for-9).

With the win, Nazareth improves to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Alfred falls to 9-4 and 2-2, respectively.

Trailing 42-41 in the second half, Nazareth used 12-0 run over a five minute span to shift the game in its favor 53-42.  Gabel banged home a 3-pointer to start the run and Wind notched five points, including a traditional 3-point play.

Nazareth's offense continued to stay in rhythm with some unselfish plays.  Cody Green hit his first 3-pointer of the game with seven minutes left in the contest to make it 66-50. 

The Saxons extended the game by fouling, but never threatened down the stretch. 

It was an even first half, with the largest lead coming at 16-11 in favor of the Golden Flyers. 

Wind hit Nazareth's first 3-pointer to give the Golden Flyers a 21-20 advantage near the six minute mark.

In total, there were nine lead changes in the first half resulting in the score being tied 34-34 at the break.

Stenglein notched a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with a team-leading four assists. 

Nazareth returns to action Saturday, hosting Houghton College at 2 p.m.
