Senior guard Ethan Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) scored the 1,000th point of his career on Wednesday night as The University of Scranton men's basketball team won its fourth straight game by defeating Susquehanna, 84-73, in a Landmark Conference matchup in the Long Center.

Danzig hit the milestone with a free throw midway through the second half, part of a team-high 20 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and a steal. He becomes the 43rd player in Royals history to score 1,000 points.

Scranton (6-8, 2-1 Landmark) held a 36-32 lead at halftime, and the lead was six at 57-51 with 11:14 left. But the Royals went on a 14-5 run over the next four minutes to take control, with sophomore guard Kyle DeVerna (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scoring the first five points of the spurt.

Susquehanna (4-9, 1-2 Landmark) never closed the gap closer than 12 the rest of the way.

Four other players joined Danzig in double figures in scoring, led by senior center Drew Schankweiler (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg), who had 18 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Senior guard Mitch Cross (Marriottsville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) continued his strong play with 13 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal, and DeVerna and senior guard Kevin Doolan (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) each scored 12 points. DeVerna added six assists, a rebounds and a steal while Doolan contributed four assists, four rebounds and two steals.

The Royals sizzled from the field, hitting 30 of 55 attempts (30-for-55), including 9 of 22 (40.9 percent) from 3-point range. They also made 15 of 20 (75 percent) at the free throw line. Scranton committed just nine turnovers, leading to a 15-9 edge in points off turnovers and 7-2 in fast break points.

Susquehanna was led by Ryan Traub, who had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Tyler Hoagland, who had 10 points and eight assists. The River Hawks shot 53.6 percent (30-for-56), including 5-for-15 (33 percent) from beyond the arc. They also made 8 of 14 (57.1 percent) at the free throw line and won the rebounding battle, 30-26.

The University of Scranton men's basketball team will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 13, when the Royals host Goucher in a Landmark Conference matchup at 2 p.m. in the Long Center.
