Balanced Offense Leads Montclair St. Over Rowan, 95-78

Montclair, NJ – Senior forward Jarrett Bogus posted his second straight double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds and rookie Myles Mitchell-White added 19 as Montclair State bounced back from its tough loss on Wednesday with a 95-78 win over Rowan at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday.

Senior guard Jovanni Chatham had a fine all-around game with 16 points, seven rebounds and nine assists as the Red Hawks improved to 6-3 overall, 3-2 in the NJAC. Sophomore Eddie Emedoh chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds.

DaRon Curry led four players in double figures for the Profs (5-3, 3-2 NJAC), who dropped their second straight following a five-game winning streak.

MSU stormed out of the gate with the first 10 points of the game. Jordan Roberson had four with Chatham finishing off the spurt in the first 2:31 of the contest. Rowan countered with an 11-034-29 run in the next three minutes to take the lead. A Chatham jumper put MSU back on top 12-11 and a nine-point burst later gave Montclair a 25-15 advantage with 9:08 left in the opening period.

Rowan whittled that down to 27-23 however Bogus scored four straight and a fast-break jumper in the lane by White pushed the lead back to 33-23 with 5:37 remaining.  The Red Hawks held a nine-point lead with 4:13 left in the half when the game was delayed for 20 minutes after a fire alarm inside the building went off. The Profs took advantage of the stoppage scoring four straight to get within 34-29. Montclair regained its footing an answered with eight straight, six by Bogus to get its lead to 42-29 with 1:13 to play.

The Red Hawks took a 44-33 lead into the break and led by double digits for most of the half. T.J. Booth nailed a three-pointer making the score 52-44 however Bogus countered with a bucket and Emedoh threw down a dunk for a 12-point lead with 14:52 left. Rowan trimmed the deficit under double digits once more as Curry's layup made it a 65-57 lead with 9:55 to go.

Chatham responded with a layup at the other end and Bogus hit off a Rowan turnover before Joseph Radi drilled a three-point with 8:37 left putting the Red Hawks up 72-57. The Profs got within 85-75 with 1:56 remaining but Mitchell-White made two from the foul line and Daniel Ramis connected on a three before a Chatham layup made the score 92-75 with 1:16 to play.

Radi finished with nine points and five rebounds for Montclair, which dominated on the boards outrebounding the Profs 58-27. Kaan Yilmaz had nine points and five rebounds with Roberson finishing with four points and six board. MSU shot 57 percent from the field making 39-of-68 attempts from the floor.

Montclair State is now off until Saturday, December 16 when it hosts Utica College in a 1:00 pm matchup at the Panzer Athletic Center.
