LOS ANGELESZach Baines scored 21 points on 9 for 13 shooting as the Occidental men's basketball team cruised past Westcliff 88-67 at Rush Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Baines, a 6-foot-5 junior wing from Samford, Conn. who is leading Oxy with 18.5 ppg this season, hit jumpers in transition, was 2 for 2 from the 3-point line and finished off two feet high above the rim on a few drives. 

Oxy moved the ball well all game and consistently made the extra pass, recording 26 assists with just seven turnovers. Ryan Kaneshiro distributed the ball nicely, leading the game with eight assists. Isaiah De La Fuente had five assists, Jacob Adler had four and Jeevin Sandhu and Jonny Crosthwaite each had three.

Oxy's Austin DeWitz had another solid all-around night and continues to play well on offense, scoring 15 ponts on 7 for 12 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds and a pair of steals. He made 15-foot jump shots over defenders and finished strong at the rim on plays around the basket.

Caleb Yellin-Flaherty chipped in 14 points, Kaneshiro had nine, and De La Fuente, Sandhu and Adler all added seven. Ian Bonde gave Oxy 11 solid minutes off the bench, scoring four points with a pair of steals and a block.

The Tigers shot 48 percent from the field.

Christopher Pendley led Westcliff with 22 points, Dezhon Baysmore had 15 and Michael Crosby had 11.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Friday, playing Cal Miramar at Rush Gym at 7 p.m. The Tigers beat Cal Miramar 81-46 on Nov. 20.

Oxy opens its SCIAC season with Cal Lutheran on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. The Kingsmen advanced to the SCIAC Championship last season and are among the favorites this season.
