Taylor Tallies a Dozen as R-MC Men's Basketball Bounces W&L

ASHLAND, Va. - Senior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) scored 12 points to lead the Randolph-Macon to a 65-57 ODAC victory over Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon in Crenshaw Gymnasium for its 11th straight win.

Junior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) and sophomore Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) both added 10 points for the first-place Yellow Jackets (14-5, 10-0 ODAC).

Noe had a three-pointer and a layup sandwiched around a Taylor trey as R-MC jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead. The Generals (8-11, 4-6 ODAC) put up six straight points to cut the deficit to two at 8-6 with 15:30 remaining in the first half. The Yellow Jackets led 10-8 before another Taylor triple capped a 10-2 run to put the home team ahead 20-10 with 9:10 left. W&L put together a 15-4 spurt to take its first lead at 25-24 with 1:40 left. Noe converted a three-point play to put R-MC up 27-25 with 1:27 remaining before the Generals hit a three-pointer with 35 seconds left to take a 28-27 lead to the locker room at intermission. Noe and Taylor both put up eight in the first half for the home team.

Wilson hit a three-pointer to cap a 9-2 run as R-MC went up 36-30 with 17:15 remaining. W&L scored four to pull within two before a layup by sophomore Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) ended a 24-9 spurt as the Yellow Jackets built their largest lead at 17 at 60-43 with six minutes left. The Generals generated a 14-1 run to pull within four at 61-57 with 29 seconds remaining. Taylor sank a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left and Noe made a pair of foul shots with three seconds left to make the final 65-57.

R-MC held a 39-34 advantage on the boards. Noe grabbed nine rebounds, sophomore Jon Nowell (Riverdale, Ga./Blair Academy) had eight caroms, Adams pulled down seven boards and senior Boris Ngundji (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) corralled six rebounds.

Junior Jermaine Johnson (Akron, Ohio/St. Christopher) had five assists and two steals for the Yellow Jackets.

Randolph-Macon hits the road to play at Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
