Montclair St. Continues Solid Play with Victory over Kean, 71-45

Montclair, NJ – Senior center Jaleel Christmon scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds leading three players in double figures as Montclair State pulled away from Kean University in a 71-45 victory at the Panzer Athletic Center on Wednesday evening.

Junior Jarrett Bogus added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Red Hawks (9-7, 6-3), who won for the fourth time in its last five games. MSU also swept the season series with the Cougars (0-17, 0-10 NJAC) having posted a 62-53 win at Kean back in November.

Montclair led from start to finish and used a seven-point spurt early in the first half to take a 15-8 lead as Isaiah Channer finished off a fast break. Kean got within 26-20 with 6:25 to play before halftime however Roberson scored in side with Channer and Bogus nailing back-to-back three pointers for a 34-20 advantage.

The Red Hawks led 38-28 at the break.

Keenan Williams connected from behind the arc and Mike Sumerer dropped in a layup in the opening minutes of the second as the Cougars closed the gap to 38-33. Montclair countered with the next 10 points to push its advantage to 48-33 with 12:50 to play. Eddie Emedoh started off the run with a three with Christmon picking up five points.

The 10-0 spurt would become part of a 23-7 run that ballooned Montclair's lead to 61-40 with 6:48 to go as Christmon banked in a layup.

Vince Anfield finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists for Montclair State while Jordan Roberson added six points and seven rebounds. Justin Porter had seven points while Emedoh totaled six points and four rebounds.

MSU enjoyed a huge margin on the boards, outrebounding Kean 46-27, including 16-4 on the offensive glass.

Montclair State is back in action at home again on Saturday, January 21 hosting Rutgers-Newark at 1:00 pm looking to avenge a 62-55 loss to the Scarlet Raiders in early December.
