No. 2 Whitman scored 18 of the first 20 points of the game en route to a 99-69 win over the Pacific University men's basketball team on Saturday in Walla Walla, Washington.
The Blues (13-0, 4-0 NWC) shot 54.1% (40-for-79) from the field in the win with three players in double figures.
The Boxers (8-4, 2-2 NWC) landed four in double figures and shot 44.9% (22-for-49) from the field.
Junior Nate Olowo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) scored the first points of the game for the Boxers before a decisive run by the home team. Six-different players for the Blues contributed to the 18-2 run. Twice, in the opening half, Pacific cut the deficit to as little as eight. The lead for Whitman remained double figures for the final half.
Senior Michael Joseph (Anchorage, Alaska) and junior J.B. Ewell (Portland, Ore.) each scored 14 to lead the Boxers. Olowo and sophomore J.J. Spitler (Bend, Ore.) each added 12 in the loss for Pacific.
The Blues shared the scoring load among 13 different players in the win. Off the bench, Jase Harrison scored a game-high 19 points to lead Whitman. He was joined in double figures by Tim Howell and Jack Stewart, who added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Next, Pacific will travel to Linfield in McMinnville on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. The Boxers have won seven of the last eight meetings.
