Marlins Top Century Mark for Third Straight Game in Win over Eagles

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College men's basketball team reached the 100-point plateau for the third straight game Friday night, defeating the University of Mary Washington 100-85 in non-conference action.

The Marlins jumped out to an impressive start, shooting 50% from the floor (21-42) in the first half with a 45% mark (9-20) from three-point range. Virginia Wesleyan used that sharp shooting to go up 59-38 at halftime.

Mary Washington and the Marlins were tied at eight when the hosts scored five-straight points on a three-pointer by Khory Moore and a layup by Percy Burt to go up 13-8 with 13:07 to go in the first. The Eagles were not able to cut the deficit to less than three points the remainder of the contest.

Senior Khory Moore had an impressive first half, scoring 23 points before the break. He has scored at least 20 points in seven of the Marlins' 10 games this season. He went 7-for-10 from the field, 5-of-8 from distance while pulling down a team-best five boards in the opening half.

The Marlins continued to grow their first-half lead behind the three-point shooting of Andre Banks and the interior presence of Burt. The duo combined for 19 points before intermission.

Mary Washington outscored the Marlins 47-41 in the second half, but could not overcome the large halftime deficit. Eric Shaw had 26 points after intermission to lead the Eagles, giving him a game-high 33 points for the contest.

Austin Hall added 13 points for Mary Washington (5-5) while John Lutkenhaus and Jacob Williams tallied 10 each.

Moore finished with 31 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Banks scored a career high 17 points on five three-pointers while Burt finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Virginia Wesleyan (8-2), winners of five straight, travel to No. 9 Christopher Newport University (8-2) on Sunday for a regional-rivalry contest at 4 p.m.
