UW-Whitewater Men Extend Win Streak to Eight Games

The No. 20 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team posted its eighth consecutive victory to start the 2016-17 season Monday with a 85-60 victory over Trine University (Ind.) in a non-conference contest at Kachel Gymnasium.
 
The Warhawks (8-0 overall) shot 50.0 percent from the floor, 51.9 percent from 3-point range and 13-of-19 at the free-throw line to extend their best start to a season since 2012-13.
 
Freshman guard Zach Knobloch (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) was one of three UW-Whitewater players in double figures with a game-high 24 points all coming from behind the 3-point arc. With his season-high eight 3-pointers he is tied for sixth most in one game in program history. Sophomore guard Andre Brown (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) posted 12 points in just 15 minutes of action.
 
Junior guard Chris Jones (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) tallied 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists in the contest. Junior forward Scotty Tyler (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) contributed eight points and six rebounds.
 
Knobloch went on a 9-0 run by himself hitting three straight 3-pointers in the first four minutes of the contest.  Trine (4-5 overall) finally got on the board with 15:45 left to go in the first half.
 
UW-Whitewater opened up a double-digit advantage at the 9:46 mark and never lead by less than ten for the rest of the game. Back-to-back made jumpers by Knobloch and Jones extended their lead to 17 which was the largest in the first half.
 
The Warhawks went into halftime with a 46-31 advantage. UW-Whitewater extended their lead to 23 in the first four minutes of the second half thanks to a 6-0 run thanks to two made free-throws by Tyler and two made jumpers by Knobloch and Jones.
 
UW-Whitewater stretched its advantage to 29 thanks to two made free-throws by sophomore Marquis Turner with 7:54 left remaining in the contest.
 
The Warhawks closed out the game with back-to-back made jumpers by junior Jerry Ngobi (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) and freshman Bobby Brenner (Silver Lake, Wis./Wilmot Union).
 
UW-Whitewater returns to action on Wednesday as they face Ripon College at Kachel Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
