The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team posted its seventh consecutive victory to start the 2016-17 season Sunday with a 98-63 triumph over George Fox (Ore.) in a non-conference contest at Kachel Gymnasium.

The Warhawks (7-0 overall) shot 57.7 percent from the floor, 63.6 percent from 3-point range and 29-of-45 at the free-throw line en route to clinching their best start to a season since 2012-13.

Junior guard Chris Jones was one of five UW-Whitewater players in double figures with a  game-high 28 points to go along with three rebounds, four assists and two steals. Junior forward Demetrius Woodley posted his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Senior guard Drew Bryson, junior forward Scotty Tyler and sophomore guard Andre Brown tallied 10 points apiece. Bryson and Brown each added three steals.

In the first half, the Warhawks took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Tyler with 16:11 on the clock.

UW-Whitewater opened up a double-digit advantage at the 12:57 mark following a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Mitchell Pfeifer and a layup by sophomore guard Andre Brown on back-to-back possessions.

The Warhawks' lead remained around 10 until the final five minutes of the period. Jones gave the team a 36-23 lead with 4:20 left and posted a steal and lay-up on the ensuing possession to make it a 15-point margin.

UW-Whitewater stretched its advantage to 22 thanks to a 10-0 run that included six free throws, including four by junior guard Jerry Ngobi.

The Bruins (3-5) drew to within 15 early in the second half, but freshman Zach Knobloch hit a 3-pointer and Tyler converted a lay-up to push the Warhawk advantage back to 20.

UW-Whitewater led by no fewer than 18 the rest of the way.

The Warhawks resume their six-game home stand Dec. 19 against Trine (Ind.). Tipoff at Kachel Gymnasium is slated for 7 p.m.
