Both teams battled during the first half of play that included seven different lead changes. Junior forward Josh Blagrove (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) started off the scoring from behind the arch. Then Clarkson's senior forward Derek Hart (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./FDR) scored four straight to ignite an 11-2 run before Onabor connected with a three. At 10:50, the game was tied at 13-all after an Onabor layup. Potsdam then took a one-point lead with a 3-pointer from Onabor and extended that lead to five with another layup from sophomore guard Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville). Clarkson tied the game back up twice before taking the final lead of the game with a three from senior forward Michael Hayduk (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton). The Golden Knights tacked on another eight points before closing out the half with the 35-28 lead.
The teams continued their see-saw play through the start of the second half. After Langley hit from behind the arch, Potsdam went on a 15-10 advantage to get Clarkson's lead down to four two different times during the span. The Golden Knights' answered with their own run of 15-4 to extend their lead into double digits and eventually sealed the 74-59 victory.
Freshman guard Danny Lowry-Delsol (Queens, N.Y./Queens H.S. of Teaching) recorded his first double-double of his career with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Langley finished with 14 points and seven boards, while Blagrove chipped in seven points.
Hart also recorded a double-double for the Golden Knights with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Hayduck tallied 17 points. Sophomore guard Liam Ellis (Turners Falls, Mass./Turners Falls) finished his night with 11 points, six rebounds and six assists.
