PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's basketball team picked up its third road-win of the season on Tuesday, downing St. Joseph's College of Long Island, 67-53.

The Brockport Golden Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season while the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles fall to 0-4 to start the year.

Ten Brockport Golden Eagles contributed in the scoring column, with Marcus Blythers leading the way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Clifton Lyerly was the only other Brockport player to work into double figures, with 10 points, while Devonn Gavin and Hamed Shamseldin chipped in nine and eight respectively.

Brockport was hot from the field, shooting an efficient 44.9 percent (31-for-69) while only needing three trey's and two free throws to secure the win.  The Green and Gold decisively won the battle in the paint, outscoring their counterparts 52-18 in the lane. Brockport's defense continued to pressure their opponents, forcing 26 St. Joseph's turnovers, which they used for 20 points.

It didn't take long for head coach Greg Dunn's squad to take control of the contest, snagging their first lead at the 16:20 mark when Matthew Smith converted on the fast break layup to take a 7-6 lead.

The Green and Gold would see their lead disappear momentarily, but back-to-back buckets from newcomers Daniel Dwanye and Malick Sylla pushed the Brockport Golden Eagles to an 11-8 advantage by the 14:13 mark.

Brockport would work to distance itself from St. Joseph's, and used a 10-2 run to reach their first double-digit lead of the contests by 9:33. A pair of scores from Gavin sparked the run, which also featured scores from Shamseldin, Blythers and Lyerly.

In the final minutes of the first half, the Green and Gold were able to push out to their largest lead of the contest, taking a 37-25 score into the break following a Shamseldin layup.

Brockport came out strong in the second half, scoring seven straight to boast an early 44-25 advantage less than two minutes into the half.

The Green and Gold would maintain control of the contest, and saw their lead grow to the largest of the night following a Sylla three pointer that pushed the Brockport Golden Eagles to a 24-point advantage with 6:25 to play.

The Brockport defense continued to hold their opponents at bay, forcing 14 second-half turnovers, and holding their opponents to only 28 points to secure the 67-53 win.

Brockport will be back in action on Nov. 23, when they continue their Long Island, N.Y. tour, facing off against The College at Old Westbury, with tip off set for 4 pm.
