Wolves Lose Tip-Off Opener at Vassar

More news about: Keuka

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Four players were in double figures for Keuka College but it was not enough as they lost to hosts Vassar College 88-72 on Friday night in Men's Basketball.

Keuka College (0-2) will return to action on Saturday as they face Johnson State College from Vermont in the consolation game of the Vassar Tip-Off Tournament.

Cliff Stevens (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa), Cameron Winston (Freeport, N.Y. / Pomfret School), and Jelani Fontanez (Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca) each scored 11 points for Keuka College in the loss. Dylan Doupe (Phoenix, N.Y. / John C. Birdlebough) added 10 points and tied with Trevor Powell (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn) for the team-lead in rebounds with nine.

Vassar did their damage from deep against the Wolves. The Brewers shot 60.9% from three point range, racking up 14 triples. Keuka College went 4-16 from three.

Keuka College scored the first basket of the game on a layup by Doupe. Following a Vassar three, Greg Tyler (Edgewater, Md. / Southern) made a layup to give Keuka a 4-3 lead just over two minutes in. That would prove to be the last lead for the Green and Gold. A pair of free throws by Tyler narrowed the margin to five, 32-27, but the Brewers went on an 8-0 run to build upon their lead. Vassar College led 40-29 at halftime.

Vassar opened the second by scoring the first seven points of the half. They would grow their lead to as many as 25 points halfway through the second half. Cliff Stevens and Cameron Winston each scored nine of their 11 points in the second frame but it was not enough for Keuka College as they would fall to Vassar 88-72 on Friday.
