Eagles Capture 24th Conference Championship in Program History

BANGOR, Maine – 2016 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament MVP Trevon Butler scored a team-high 27 points to help propel Husson University to their fifth NAC Men's Basketball Championship in the last eight years with a 94-77 win over Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday afternoon inside Newman Gym.

Husson (21-6) wins its 24th conference championship in program history and the 11th under head coach Warren Caruso, while Colby-Sawyer (19-7) drops its third straight game to the Eagles and falls to 9-6 in the all-time series.

Colby-Sawyer scored the first four points of the game before a Zach Curran jump shot sparked a 13-4 run as Husson took a 13-8 lead at the 13:00 mark of the first half. The Chargers countered with their own run and retook the lead, 20-19 when Peter Donato made layup from a nice pass from Jourdain Bell with 8:00 remaining. Mitch Worcester capped off a 19-9 run by the Eagles with a three at the buzzer and Husson entered the intermission with a 38-29 advantage.

Milani Hicks led all scorers with 11 points in the half while Donato added nine and six boards for the Chargers. Worcester and Darryl Wood each scored eight points to lead the Eagles.

The Chargers went on an 8-2 run to open up the second half to cut the Husson lead to 40-37 with 16:35 remaining. A two by Raheem Anderson at 16:19, sparked a 12-2 run by the Eagles to extend their lead to ten with 13:02 left in the game, but Butler took over the game the rest way which included seven made threes as Husson pulled away in the closing minutes of the game for the victory.

Butler added ten rebounds and two steals to go along with his 27 points.  Raheem Anderson finished with 22 points, four rebounds, eight assists, and one block. Wood contributed 12 points and five rebounds off the bench and Eli Itkin added 10 to the Husson offense.

Donato scored a game-high 31 points and added 10 rebounds for the Chargers. Wol Majong chipped in with 13 points and Milani Hicks scored 13 points.
