BRISTOL, R.I. -- Devin Thompson poured in a season-best 28 points to lead the University of New England in a 62-48 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball win over Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 13) at the Campus Recreation Center.

The Nor'easters (12-11) secure a playoff berth with the result, improving to 7-9 in conference play. The Hawks fall back to 9-14 on the year, 7-9 in the CCC.

Thompson scored 17 of his total in the 2nd half, as he went 5-of-7 from long distance in the frame. The senior ended with a personal-high of eight triples, to go with three steals. Blake Swanson was next on UNE's scoring list with seven points.

Big Blue was up by a couple (13-11) nearing the midway mark of the 1st period before a 12-0 stretch bumped the gap to 25-11. Thompson knocked down a pair from deep during the span.

UNE led 27-14 at intermission, holding Roger Williams to just 24 percent (6 of 25) from the floor and forcing 10 turnovers.

Thompson opened the final stanza with a three-pointer and the margin peaked at 18 (32-14) moments later, but the Hawks responded with a 23-4 run to edge in front, 37-36, with 9:34 to go. Austin Coene had 10 points in the swing, and Dawson Dickson hit two from behind the arc.

The Nor'easters were only down for 10 seconds, though, as Thompson connected again and sparked a 14-2 surge that ended at UNE ahead 50-39 with under five minutes on the clock. RWU would get no closer than eight the rest of the way.

Coene tallied all of his 14 points following halftime, and Dickson recorded nine. Trevor Fahmy went for seven points and 12 rebounds.

UNE will visit Eastern Nazarene College (11-5 CCC) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
