Ford, Mills lead Nazareth past Alfred, 87-65

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nazareth Senior duo Mitch Ford and Maurice Mills combined for 45 points and 28 rebounds, as Nazareth defeated Alfred in Empire 8 Men's Basketball 87-65 Friday at the Kidera Gymnasium. Ford had 25 points and 13 rebounds and Mills added 20 points and 15 rebounds, as Nazareth improved to 14-8 overall and 10-3 in the Empire 8. Alfred dropped to 9-13 overall and 5-8 in the Empire 8.

The Golden Flyers were in control early as they led 42-34 at half time, as Ford and Mills combined their efforts to tally 28 points, each contributing 14. The duo continued to find the hoop throughout the game's entirety, Ford shot 9-for-13 from the field and Mills was 9-for-11. Ford also made a pair of three pointers and Nick Nadeau added three more.

In the second half, the Golden Flyers' lead extended into double digits. Ford had 11 more points and Mills tallied six. With just 4:24 left in the game, Ford made a layup to increase their lead a game-high 27 points, to make the score 81-54.

Sophomore Tyler Stenglein added 16 points on the night, while Nadeau contributed 11.

Nazareth remains third in the Empire 8 Conference's standings, closely trailing Hartwick and St. John Fisher by one game.

The Golden Flyers will take on the Elmira Soaring Eagles Saturday at 2 p.m.
