Hamane's Energy Not Enough Against Bulldogs

More news about: Occidental

LOS ANGELES — Jay Miller scored 23 points — his eighth game out of the last 10 with at least 20 — and Kory Hamane played outstanding all-around basketball.

But Oxy All-SCIAC forward Andrew Johnson fouled out with 9 minutes to play, scoring just six points in 22 minutes, and the Occidental men's basketball team struggled to find any rhythm on offense against Redlands' zone defense, losing an ugly game to the Bulldogs, 55-50 at Rush Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 10-11 overall and 4-8 in SCIAC play.

Redlands holds its spot in fourth place, improving to 11-10 and 7-5.

Jay was 10 of 15 shooting from the field with five rebounds in 40 minutes played. He's second in the SCIAC with 21.8 ppg.

Hamane was the heart of the Tigers, hustling all over the court for six steals to go along with his 13 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the field and 3 of 5 shooting from beyond the 3-point line.

Al Bjekovic led Redlands with 16 points, Sean Milligan added 10 and Joey Sponheim had 11, including a pair of 3-pointers that extended the Redlands lead to two possessions late in the second half.

Joe Compagno had five points and five assists off the bench for the Tigers.

The Tigers turned the ball over 16 times, struggling against the Bulldogs' 3/4-court pressure.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action at La Verne on Saturday at 2 p.m.
