Seelman surpasses 1,000 points in loss to Houghton

ALFRED, NY—Junior Tyler Seelman (Lorton, VA/Hayfield Secondary) eclipsed 1,000 points in his career at Alfred University against Houghton College Saturday afternoon in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.
 
Seelman paced the Saxons with 27 points and four assists in the matchup to push his career total points to 1,022 at Alfred University.  Sophomore Dalton Cousin (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) scored 13 points and collected four rebounds. Junior Eric Adams (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central) led AU with eight rebounds in the matchup.
 
The game opened on a high note for the Saxons when Seelman scored his 1000th point only two minutes in via a layup. He scored the Saxons' first five points of the game to seal the milestone. With the pressure off, Seelman and the Saxons carried on to shoot 18-of-31 (58.1%) in the first half.
 
The Highlanders also shot accurately in the first half, nailing 16-of-31 (51.6%) their shots. Houghton's Brandon Camacho dished out four dimes in the first half alone.
 
The roles were exchanged in the second half with the Highlanders shooting 14-of-24 (58.3%) from the field and the Saxons managing 13-of-33 (39.4%) from the field.
 
Despite carrying the lead into the second half, AU fell behind Houghton by as many as 15 points with 5:27 left in play. The Saxons chipped away at the lead down the stretch to come within seven points with 54 seconds to go. However, the Highlanders took advantage of their free throws to put the Saxons away, 93-79.
 
Freshman Pat McLamore (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute) distributed a career-high six assists for the Saxons.
 
Camacho led the Highlanders with 15 points in the game. Seven points came from the charity strip for the guard.
 
The Saxons look to snap their two-game skid on Wednesday at home against St. John Fisher College at 6PM. In their previous matchup in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena the Saxons downed the Cardinals who were undefeated in the Empire 8 and ranked #16 in the nation.
