They can't all be pretty.

The Lancaster Bible men's basketball team stretched its unbeaten season to 14-0 on Friday afternoon with an 86-59 victory over Wells at Horst Athletic Center, but despite the score, Wells played the Chargers tough and Friday's game will not go down as the smoothest victory in the chronicles of the 2015-16 season. The Chargers are now 8-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while Wells dropped to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in conference action.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible began the game on a 7-0 run, but it was deceiving due to the fact that it was over the first 4:36 of the game and though the Chargers led, their offense was nearly as anemic as their opponent's. Wells got on the boards at the 15:24 mark and eventually cut its deficit to three, 9-6, after a Rich Ross layup with 14 minutes to play.

A 9-0 run by the Chargers opened a 12-point lead at 18-6, but the pesky Express battled back again and closed the gap to six, 22-16 on a 3-pointer from Zachary Marsh. Lancaster Bible then took its turn to make a run as the Chargers scored 11 of the game's next 15 points to secure a 33-20 lead with 4:02 remaining in the first half. The Chargers' took their biggest lead at the half, 37-23, with just over a minute remaining thanks to a layup from Kurt Keltner and went into halftime with a 39-27 advantage.

Lancaster Bible maintained its double-digit advantage early in the second half and finally began to build upon the lead after five minutes of play, but Wells hung around and didn't make life easy for the Chargers. Sophomore Herbie Brown's jumper with 14:30 to play gave the Chargers a 19-point lead, but the Express chipped away again and trimmed the deficit to 12 at 57-45 with 12:38 remaining. The Chargers drove the lead back to 18 following an 8-2 run that was capped by CJ Dunston's one-handed slam dunk with 9:56 to play.

Wells continued to stay in the game and trailed by just 13 at 69-56 with 5:31 to play, but a 13-1 run late in the half sealed the victory for the Chargers and sent them to their 14th straight victory.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 34-of-72 (47.2 percent) from the field on Friday, but the Chargers were just 8-of-30 from 3-point range...Lancaster Bible did finish a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line...Dunston finished with a game-high 25 points on 12-of-15 shooting and he also grabbed nine rebounds and had three assists and three steals...Bryce Williams added 17 points and a season-high eight rebounds...Kurt Keltner and Dondre Perry each added 12 points, while Herbie Brown finished with seven points...Vaughndell Brantley led Wells with 19 points.

The Coach Says: "It was nice to be able to get a win despite not playing overly well," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Zach Filzen said. "We lacked energy and effort at times today and just struggled with chemistry throughout the first half. Wells' pressure slowed us down in the first half and we didn't do a very good job responding to that in a timely manner."

More on Friday's game..."We were challenged yesterday and today and I think it revealed that we still need to work on a lot of aspects of our game," Filzen said. "We have to pay attention to details on both ends of the floor and we have to learn from these past two games."

Heading into the final week of January and into February..."The mindset for this team needs to be to shore up our details and maximize our potential," Filzen said. "We want to be playing our best basketball at the end of February and early March and to do that we will rely on our upperclassmen to continue to push the team and get them to work hard every single day.
