North Central Men Ride Second-Half Surge to Win at Wheaton

The North Central College men's basketball team remained perfect in College Conferende of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Saturday, scoring 10 unanswered points late in the contest and securing a 71-62 victory at King Arena.

North Central got a season-high 25 points and 10 rebounds from Connor Rardon, who was one of four North Central players to score in double figures as the Cardinals won their fourth straight game and their eighth in the past nine contests.

Saturday's game was tied six times in the first half, the last of which occurred at 19-19 with 9:04 to play. The Cardinals owned a 30-26 advantage before missing their last five shots of the half, as Wheaton (4-10, 0-3 CCIW) scored the final 10 points of the half and took a 36-30 advantage into halftime. The Thunder got a boost from its 50 percent accuracy (6 of 12) from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes.

After yielding a three-pointer to start the second half, North Central (10-4, 3-0 CCIW) scored 16 consecutive points, getting seven from Jagger Anderson and two three-pointers from Raridon, to take control of the contest. The Cardinals took their largest lead at 58-46 on Jayme Moten's three-pointer, and after the Thunder closed the gap to 61-59 with 2:15 to play, another triple by Moten sparked a 10-0 run which helped the visitors put the contest away.

Henry put up 14 points and nine rebounds, while Moten put up 13 and Jagger Anderson contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. 

Trae Masten came off the bench to lead Wheaton with 15 points, while Michael Berg scored 14 and Ricky Samuelson scored 13. 

North Central travels to take on Augustana College (13-1, 2-1 CCIW) on Wednesday. The Vikings were ranked No. 1 in the nation prior to last Wednesday's 77-75 overtime loss to Elmhurst College. Tipoff at the Carver Center is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
