A running 3-pointer with less than a second left by senior CJ Edwards led LeTourneau University to a 108-107 win over host Concordia University on Saturday afternoon in Austin.

The YellowJackets (6-9, 4-3 ASC) won its second-straight, one-point game after losing five games by three points or less on the season. After a LETU timeout, trailing 107-105, Edwards took an inbounds pass from sophomore Sam Talbert, who raced up the court with less than four seconds to go. The senior from Pasadena, California took the ball up the court and dribbled up the right side for the game-winning shot.

"I asked CJ if he wanted the ball in the timeout and he said yes. We had CJ and Jeff coming off a loop heading up the court and CJ made a great play," said an excited LETU head coach Dan Miller.

Edwards finished the contest with a game-high 23 points in the win to lead five YellowJackets in double figures. He was joined by reserves sophomore Sam Talbert and senior Giovanny Thompson, who had 18 and 16 points, respectively. Also in double figures were junior Jeff Martin (17 points), senior Zakarius Wells (12 points) and freshman Caleb Loggins (11 points).

"We worked hard to be ready for their pressure and create scoring opportunities. We struggled against their inside game, but overall we showed a lot of grittiness on defense and battled on the boards as well as 50/50 balls." said Miller. The tightly contested game went back and forth with 17 lead changes and tied on seven occasions. Loggins grabbed nine rebounds to lead LETU, who outrebounded Concordia by three, 44-41. Plus, the YellowJackets had 21 assists on 35 field goals. Martin had a game-high eight assists and freshman Christian Seidl had four for the YellowJackets. The 108 points are the most by a LETU squad since they scored 110 in a win over Sul Ross State on December 1, 2001.

Concordia, who saw its 14-game home winning streak end in the loss, were led by Joe Neal and Ben Page, who each scored 19 in the loss. Like the YellowJackets, the Tornadoes had five in double figures, including Greg Rollins (17 points), Dervyn Baines and DeMarco Robinson (10 points).

After the third tie of the opening half, a 12-2 run by LeTourneau put the visitors ahead 51-41 with 3:03 left to go in the first 20 minutes. The YellowJackets went into the halftime break with a six-point lead, 57-51. Martin and Talbert led the YellowJackets with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Neither team struggled from the floor, LeTourneau shot 51.4% (19-for-37) and Concordia shot 50% (18-for-36).

LETU stretched the lead to eight midway through the second half, but Concordia would not surrender. Later in the half, the Tornadoes took their first lead since the first basket of the game after a 6-0 spurt for an 86-85 lead with 8:24 to play. Down the stretch, each team had a four-point lead, but that was not safe. The Tornadoes held a 107-105 lead with four seconds to play after Baines made one of two free throws.

Baines missed the second attempt; then Wells pulled down his sixth rebound of the game and promptly called timeout to set up the game-winning shot for the YellowJackets.

Next, the YellowJackets will wrap up its five-game swing as they will face the University of the Ozarks on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
